Topline Stables Spring Horse Trials was a major success. It was run on the May Long weekend this year, with a record number of entries in Starter to Training. The Combined Test provided an opportunity for riders and horses to work in the rings and get some last minute tips from judges prior to the horse trials. Dressage started with the first Training horse at 7:30 Sunday morning. Dressage was judged by Lynda Ramsay and Isabel Reinertson, who provided positive feedback to help everyone improve their skills for the season ahead. Anthony Lothian once again designed a challenging yet inviting Show Jumping course, judged by Phil Wright. The Cross Country track included many new exciting fences and several challenging questions for all levels. It was a true Nick Holmes-Smith course; keeps you thinking and tough to beat the clock! There were lots of trips through the trees, making you land and make time where you could. It was also very entertaining for spectators, as they were able to watch multiple trips through the water, skinnies and ditch combinations. Young Riders Coaches organized and led course walks for all levels. This was very beneficial as it gave young riders another view point and some ideas on how to tackle the track the best they could. On Saturday night there was a huge turnout for the "Young" Adult Rider's Social at Brandy Saunder's trailer. Young Rider's, we better step up our game!
A special thanks to Sonya and King Campbell for hosting this amazing event. Also, to Amanda who kept smiling through the difficult task of score-keeping. Ron Trickett did an awesome job organizing timing and the TD, Julie Johannson, was as always, very efficient and approachable. Thanks also to the volunteers who come to help make the event a success. It was an exceptional weekend and I am looking forward to their Summer Horse Trials!

Topline is a facility to be enjoyed by those who enjoy and love horses and who want a country lifestyle without the expense of owning their own acreage. The joy of being around horses and the satisfaction of becoming part of a community of like minded individuals, caring for their horses and the facility is a truly rewarding experience.
For young people it provides experience with commitment, hard work, physical exercise, and practical skills that are applied to everyday life, for the rest of their lives. Mirrors are an exciting new addition at Topline! This fall, large mirrors were strategically placed in the indoor arena to help riders monitor their horses' movements. Regardless if you are just beginning or schooling FEI Dressage, mirrors offer the rider a clear indication of how well they are riding. Being able to monitor important movements using mirrors can help you get better results and improve your accuracy.
A rider needs to check their position and the position of their horse constantly, as they can't rely on the instructor being there all the time. Mirrors make a rider more independent and able to work on their own. When looking in the mirror, riders can match what they see in the mirror to what they feel on the horse, and learn from that to either adjust what they are doing or assure themselves that they are doing something correctly.

The fall finale was a tremendous wrap-up to the 2012 competitions at Topline Stables. More than 90 competitors participated in everything from the traditional costume class to 3'9" jumper classes over three days. Topline competitions continue to grow in popularity with happy horses and riders experiencing the annual improvements to facilities, footing, organization, and sponsorship.
Topline always delivers with fun and exciting competitions in a very pleasurable environment with high quality prizes, and this year more than $1500 was awarded in prize money. Judges Julia Bostock and Phil Wright provided excellent rider feedback and support for this BC Summer Games and BC Heritage Qualifier.
